The mission of the Compassion, Peace and Reconciliation Commission is to give voice to efforts which promote compassion for those in need and respect for all persons, calling the church to action and fostering justice, peace, and reconciliation through the love of Christ and our neighbors in the name of Trinity Episcopal Church, Bloomington, Indiana.
CPR was started in an effort to channel the voice of Trinity Bloomington to reflect those ideals and values that are addressed in our Baptismal Covenant and are reflected in our mission. The specific issues the CPR will address will be those of the Episcopal Church in the USA, including but not limited to the Episcopal Public Policy Network, General or Diocesan Convention resolutions, or positions taken by the Presiding or Diocesan Bishops. CPR may formulate positions conforming to our Baptismal Covenant, which may not have risen to the attention of higher church governance.

A reparations study group at Trinity Bloomington engaged in learning about reparations initiatives in the Episcopal Church as well as learning about the history of Trinity Parish with a focus of identifying evidence of specific incidents of racist violence or systemic racism organized through the leadership or participation of its clergy or prominent parishioners. The study group functioned as a subcommittee of Trinity’s Commission for Compassion, Peace and Reconciliation (CPR), ultimately bringing its recommendations back to the commission for consideration of further action. The project lasted from April until September of 2021.
In March of 2022, the group made a presentation of its report to Trinity’s forum. As it was several months after the report was written, the presentation contained some updated information.
