Save Energy $$ and Raise Funds for Trinity!

Have you scheduled your Energizing Indiana free home energy assessment yet? See Ruth Witten's article below regarding her HEA and what she learned about household energy savings.

Home Energy Assessment

by Ruth Witten

Do you know what your house’s R-value is? Do you have a ceiling vault or not? What is the R-value of your wall insulation? What should it be? How much infiltration does your house get? Did you know that contains moisture, odors and particulate pollution? How much improvement would result in saving an estimated 6.9% of your energy use?

What are the R-values of your windows and doors? How much energy saving could you achieve by replacing some of them or at least caulking the existing ones?

How efficient are your furnace and air conditioning units? How can you tell? Did you know that heat and AC account for 54% of the average household’s energy use?

Did you know that lowering your hot water temperature by a mere 20 degrees could save as much as 4% on energy use?

WELL…I know all of these money- and energy-saving things because we had our Energizing Indiana “Home Energy Assessment” recently, and it was an eye opener! It took about an hour, was free, AND Trinity Church gets $25 because we participated. What a deal!!

AND, of course you have replaced all your old light bulbs with CFLs—Right? Well, with your assessment you will receive a box of free CFLs too! What are you waiting for?

Note: Trinity’s participation in Energizing Indiana’s Home Energy Assessment program continues through March 10, 2013. To sign up online, see: “Save Money and Raise Funds for Trinity!” at http://www.trinitybloomington.org/serve/creation-care.

If you prefer registering via mail/fax, sign-up sheets are available at the church—in pockets on the Creation Care bulletin board near the Harvest Room. Questions? Contact Karen Smith at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

2013 Outreach Grants - Deadline is Feb 8

Each year, Trinity dedicates 10% of its operating budget to Outreach – supporting and carrying out projects that serve the greater community. One of our major Outreach initiatives is the grant program. Parishioners with ties to deserving local organizations or projects are encouraged to initiate and sponsor grant requests for up to $1000.

The application form is fairly simple and can be found under the "Serve" tab on this website (and go to the Outreach section). Copies are also available in the church office. All applications are due by 4:00 pm on Friday, February 8. Grant awards will be announced in early March.

Do You Have an Idea for Guerilla Outreach?

Trinity is looking for ways to provide our members “guerilla outreach” opportunities—ways to support our community in small, fun, yet significant ways. These activities are member driven and typically require a smaller amount of time and resource commitment. Start something today! If you have an idea for a “guerilla outreach” activity, please contact Randy Lloyd at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Our first activity is Bowl For Kid’s Sake. Partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters through Bowl for Kids' Sake makes a positive, long-lasting impact on children in our community. Trinity’s efforts ensure that more Bigs and Littles can be paired up, more friendships can begin, and improved outlooks on life can be started. We're looking for bowlers (any skill level) to form one or two Trinity teams for "Bowl For Kids' Sake" -- a fundraising event that takes place in late February. See the bulletin board in the main hall or contact Randy Lloyd for more information.

Trinity Scrip Cards - Basic Information

New this year, is Trinity's Scrip Program. Scrip is a program through which parishioners purchase prepaid cards for groceries, local stores and online retailers. A percentage of each card’s face value goes directly to Trinity, enabling the purchaser to financially support our church at no additional personal cost. Revenue from the scrip program has the potential to make a significant impact in our annual operating budget. Visit the Sunday Forum or the Trinity office to obtain scrip order forms for local grocery stores or information about our online program that offers cards from hundreds of merchants — many you are already using every month! Commit to supporting Trinity with this easy and effective program.

To purchase Scrip cards from online retailers go to: www.shopwithscrip.com When you register, you will be asked for your non-profit organizations code – Trinity’s code is F33292A331776. You may pay for these scrip cards by writing a check to “Trinity Scrip Program” or by signing up for automatic bank withdrawal. (Signing up for automatic bank withdrawal enables you to purchase ScripNow gift certificates instantly.) Regular gift cards are available to pick up at the church 5 to 14 days after ordering (depending on volume ordered by church).

Questions about the Scrip program can be directed to Spencer Anspach at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
