As the members of Trinity parish seek to grow in faith and knowledge and to do Christ's work in the community and the world, they engage in both formal programs and individual quests.
The staff, of course, plays a crucial role in programming, but lay members of the congregation also initiate and sustain programs. For several years, our Vestry has been organized in a commission structure, in which each Vestry member assumes a leadership role for a specific area of congregational life. It is convenient to discuss programming in some detail using that structure as an organizing device. The commissions are:
Buildings and Grounds Commission The Building and Grounds Commission has begun to assess Trinity's physical structure and grounds and set priorities for maintenance and renovation. The commission organizes periodic work days to help with maintenance and beautification projects.
Christian Education Commission The Church School staff teaches a program designed for infants through high school age students. In addition to the Church School Program, the Christian Education Commission plans the Adult Forum, which meets after the 10 a.m. service on Sunday. Check out our offerings for adults | for youth
Finance Commission The Finance Commission monitors the financial statements, audits and investments of the parish and prepares a draft budget for approval.
Parish Life Commission This commission provides a variety of activities, embracing everything from venerable church traditions (the Christmas Hanging of the Greens and the Easter breakfast and egg hunt) to game nights, parish breakfasts and lunch-time concerts. These events attract various constituencies, fostering a closer sense of community.
Pastoral Care Commission This commission supports the congregation by organizing receptions after funerals, rides to church, delivery of meals and visits to shut-ins.
Outreach Commission This commission sponsors traditional service projects and innovative programs. Members of this commission have fostered a close relationship with Monroe County United Ministries, an ecumenical social service organization, by volunteering as members of the board; the parish contributes regular financial support to MCUM . This commission also contributes time and money to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank, Stone Belt Center, Shelter, Inc., and Bloomington's sister city, Posoltega, Nicaragua. Stewardship Commission This commission sees its charge as inspiring and educating members of the congregation to participate in stewardship, which supports the parish activities they enjoy. It continues to explore ways of fostering stewardship within the congregation, expanding its activities beyond the traditional fundraising associated with the adoption of an annual budget.
Worship Commission This commission assists the clergy in planning, implementing and evaluating liturgical activities; recruiting and training participants in services; advising on worshippers' responses; selecting and maintaining liturgical materials; and supporting the music program. The Worship Commission coordinates regular training sessions for lay readers, intercessors, ushers, acolytes and chalice administrators
